The highlight of the match was former Churchill Brothers striker, R.Vashum five goals, while East Bengal striker Subhas Singh notched up four goals to his name. Churchill Brothers winger Charan Rai scored a brace with Bisheshwor Singh and Naila Kumar Singh scoring one goal each. Cluster III Punjab 7-0 Pondicherry (1-0, 3-0 Balwant Singh (29′, 49′), 2-0 Ravinder Singh (31′), 4-0 Balraj Singh (66′), 5-0 Rohit Kumar (70′), 6-0 Parveen Kumar (71′), 7-0 Randeep Singh (88′) Punjab were off to a cracking start in the 64th National Championship for Santosh Trophy trouncing Pondicherry 7-0 in a Cluster III match played at Kolkata today. The former champions didn't allow their opponent to settle in the match and went on scoring goal at regular intervals. JCT striker Balwant Singh found the back of the net twice, while Ravinder Singh, Balraj Singh, Rohit Kumar, Parveen Kumar and Randeep Singh were the other scorers. Gujarat 0-4 Nagaland (0-1, 0-4 Sakutemje (54′, 90+3′), 2-0 Deilierio (77′), Tiafumet (90′) In another Cluster III encounter, Nagaland scored a thumping 4-0 victory over the hapless Gujarat to give a perfect start to their Santosh Trophy campaign. After the stalemate prevailed over the first 45 minute, Sakutemje broke the deadlock in the 54th minute, while Deilierio doubled the lead in the 77th minute. Tiafumet then took the match away from the Gujarat hands netting in the third goal in the 90th minute, while Sakutemje completed his brace in the added time.
