Delhi Senior Division to kick-off July 30 Top
The Delhi Soccer Association organised local league will see 14 teams fighting it out to win the trophy of the 'DLF - Delhi Soccer Association Annual Preliminary League Football Championship' to kick-off on July 30 at the Netaji Subhash Sports Complex in Jasola, New Delhi. From August 3 onwards league matches would also be played at the Thayraj Sports Complex and the Ambedkar Stadium. The DSA in its meeting on July 15 presided by president Subhash Chopra constituted a League Sub-Committee under chairman N.K. Bhatia (Convenor), Syed Shaheen, Liquat Ali, Benny Joseph (all Co-Convenors); Hafiz Shahid Bholanath Karmakar, Bachi Ram (all members) to ensure smooth and successful conduct of the league. 14 teams have been split into two groups of seven teams each. The top four qualify for a round robin league to be played in two groups of four teams each. The top two teams will qualify for the semifinals and the highlight of this years league is the fact that the semifinals and final will be played under floodlights at the Ambedkar Stadium, while the bottom placed team in each preliminary group is relegated. The groups of the participating teams was carried out by a draw of lots in the meeting held yesterday at the DSA office which was attended by all club secretaries. In Group A Delhi United FC (formerly Gorkha Heroes), Tarun Sangha, New Delhi Heroes, Youngmen SC, Royal Rangers FC, Shastri Club and Indian Air Force (New Delhi) would face each other; while in Group B Hindustan FC, Ahbab FC, Indian National FC, Garhwal Heroes, Simla Youngs FC, Shahdara FC and Veterans FC have been clubbed together.
