India thrash Maldives, cruise into semis Top
by sportswire4u.blogspot.com KATHMANDU, AUG 5 India U-16 colts thrashed Maldives 5-0 in their last and final group league match played at the Dashrath Stadium, Kathamandu (Nepal) on Friday. By the virtue of this win, India found their place in the last four of the SAFF U-16 Championship and finished second in the Group A. The Thomas Joseph coached side will take on the Group B winner in the second semifinal to be played on August 8. Vanlalduatsanga scored a brace, while Daniel Lalampuia, Raja Rawat and Prakash Mojumdar were the other scorers. India started on aggressive note right from the outset. The India U-16 colts made numerous inroads in the opponent citadel launching series of attacks. Their hard work was paid off when a Nabin Raba shot from the outside of the 18 yard box in the 31 st minute was fumbled by the rival goalkeeper with Daniel Lallampuia scoring off a rebound. The Indians didn't waste much time to double their lead as left wing half Raja Rawat found the target from inside the box in the 37 th minute. Vanlalduatsanga then made it 3-0 at the stroke of half time. Myron Mendes did all the hard work running past three defenders down the right flank and providing an inch perfect cross for Vanlalduatsanga to do the rest. India continued to dictate the terms in the second half. Vanlalduatsanga completed his brace with a neat strike from inside the box in the 54 th minute. India were down to ten men when Lalramzuava was given the marching order in the 61 st minute. Prakash Mojumdar scored the fifth goal for the India in the 63 rd minute. A satisfied India U-16 coach, Thomas Joseph was all praise for his boys and said,'' We utilised the conditions very well.
